The Evolution of the iPhone

Apple Computers, Inc. was founded in April 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, to make and sell smaller computers that could be used in homes and offices. Over the years, the company has come a long way with products like iMac (desktop computers), iPod (mp3 players), iTunes (media player software), and everyone’s loved possession, the iPhone. The meaning of “i” in the name of devices has been revealed to be “internet”. Secondary meanings such as “individual”, “instruct”, “inform”, and “inspire” have also been used.

The iPhone was Apple’s revolutionary product and a game-changer in the mobile phone industry. It was considered so as it changed the mobile phone industry where a phone was not ‘just a phone’ anymore. From the first-ever iPhone in 2007, the iPhone 2G, to the newest iPhone SE (second generation) in 2020, the device has undergone dramatic changes- all developed and designed by Apple Inc. All generations of the iPhone use iOS mobile operating system software.

The first iPhone was designed as a touch screen without any keypad buttons by Apple’s head of design, Jonathan Ive. Even though the app store wasn’t included in this version, the device was adept with applications such as like Google maps, YouTube, Games, and many more that still find their place in the iPhones of today. Over the years, the tech giant as launched over twenty iPhones. The latest model of iPhone is iPhone SE (2nd generation) wherein, ‘SE’ stands for the special edition.

From the first iPhone to the latest model, the iPhone has seen a lot of technological changes. It has better hardware and software integration, with improved security and many more features that make a phone, not ‘just a phone’. iPhone has come a long way and will surely go a long way with technological advancements in the future.
